Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain on Wednesday disrupted normal life in Bhubaneswar, causing severe traffic congestion and leaving several roads waterlogged.
Vehicular movement was brought to a standstill on key routes, including Janpath, NH-16, Saheed Nagar, Vani Vihar, Raj Mahal Square and Rasulgarh, as hundreds of vehicles, including buses and two-wheelers, remained stranded for hours.
Commuters reported long delays, with travel times stretching to more than twice the usual duration. Public transport services, including city buses, were affected, leaving passengers waiting in flooded areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a yellow warning for rainfall in Khordha district. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30–40 kmph are likely to occur at one or two places in these districts, the IMD said.
The department also predicted the formation of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal around October 10, which may lead to further rainfall activity in the region.
