Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for 11 districts in Odisha, predicting moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface winds reaching up to 40 kmph.
The affected districts include Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Koraput, Nuapada, Nabarangapur, Bargarh And Balangir within next three hours.
The regional weather office issued nowcast warning at 10:20 am and the warning is valid for the next three hours.
Residents of these districts are advised to be cautious of lightning strikes and strong winds. The IMD has urged people to keep a close watch on the weather and be prepared to move to safer locations if conditions worsen.
This warning comes as Odisha is already experiencing heavy rainfall, with a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal triggering heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country, including eastern India.
