Malkangiri: In view of the Red Warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Malkangiri district, Collector Manish Agarwal has asked the residents to move to safer places.
Heavy rainfall has been lashing Malkangiri since last week as a result many low-lying bridges have submerged in water disrupting communication in the district. But there has been no major loss to life and property, said Agarwal.
Alerting that rainfall activity is to continue for a few more days, he requested all to be prepared. Backwaters are present at Motu and Podia as water extraction is slow in Godavari River and the water level may increase in the coming days, he added.
Agarwal asked people living in unsafe houses or structures to move to safe places and they can contact the local administration for support if they don’t have any safe place to move to.
He further advised people living in low-lying areas to move to multipurpose shelters present at each gram panchayat. He assured that the district, local and police administration are prepared to face the circumstances and the situation will return to normal once the heavy rain moves out.
