Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains in several districts of Odisha on August 24 and 25. At the same time, the weather office has predicted that several Odisha districts will receive heavy rain during the next five days.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area is currently active in south Bangladesh and neighbouring region. As it moves northwards, it will intensify and approach the West Bengal during the next 48 hours. While monsoon is active over the state, a cyclonic circulation may result in heavy rain in different parts of the state during the next two days.
Another cyclonic circulation is likely to form in the North Bay of Bengal on August 24.
Light to moderate rain is very likely across Odisha on Thursday, including districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Malkangiri. In view of this, the weather center has issued a yellow alert for these districts. Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed the District Magistrates of all the districts of the state to remain alert in view of the orange warning issued by the IMD. Along with this, the District Collectors of six coastal districts of the state have been instructed to follow the warnings issued for fishermen.
