Bhubaneswar: Several places in Odisha are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall from Wednesday under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Odisha that is likely to result in the formation of a low-pressure area today.
According to the India Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area is likely over the northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours, and, under its impact, several parts of Odisha may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next four-five days.
The weather office forecasted heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Angul during next 24 hours. A yellow warning has been issued for these districts.
Meanwhile, several villages in Malkangiri district have come under water due to incessant downpours in the region in the last 24 hours disrupting road transport in the region. In the last 24 hours till 8:30 am on Wednesday, the city has recorded 183.2 mm of rainfall.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted all district Collectors in the state and asked them to keep a constant vigil on the developments that may take place due to heavy rainfall in different parts of the state.
