Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday forecasted a trough extending from central north Bihar to Odisha via Jharkhand at 0.9 km above mean sea level, indicating the likelihood of rain and thunderstorms in Odisha.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places across Odisha until July 25.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph. This is likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Kandhamal on July 20.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of similar intensity are also expected at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri on the same day.
For July 21, a yellow warning remains in effect for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri.
Additionally, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, and Bolangir districts are also likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds on July 21.
The IMD has reiterated the yellow warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds across Odisha, expected to persist until July 25.
