Heavy Rain, Thunderstorm Warnings Issued For Odisha Till August 11

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a series of yellow warnings for heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30–40 kmph. These weather events are expected to affect various districts across Odisha intermittently until August 11.

According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, on August 7, heavy rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds are likely at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts.

The IMD further issued yellow alerts for August 8 and 9, forecasting similar weather conditions across Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and other districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

On August 10, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are again expected at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh districts.

The final yellow warning for August 11 targets Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, and Kalahandi districts for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds.

The IMD advises residents in these areas to stay alert and take necessary precautions to safeguard against the adverse weather conditions.
