Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings for several districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph, and heavy rainfall likely during the afternoon and evening hours on May 5.
As per the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada. One or two places in Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Boudh may also receive rainfall. Dry weather is likely to prevail over the remaining districts.
An orange warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts, indicating the possibility of intense weather activity. A yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar, Angul, and Dhenkanal.
On May 6, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Bhadrak, for which a yellow warning has been issued.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati, and at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. The rest of the state is expected to experience dry weather.
From May 7 to 11, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers across several districts of Odisha.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature is likely to drop by 3–5°C over the next 24 hours. No significant change is expected during the following four days. A gradual rise of 2–3°C is anticipated in the subsequent two days.
