Bolangir: Incessant heavy rainfall created havoc in districts of Bolangir, Boudh, Kandhamal and Rayagada on Tuesday. While many villages were water-logged, normal life was thrown out-of-gear as communication was disrupted.
People of Bolangir town and several other adjoining areas were marooned and district administration ordered closure of all educational institutions. ODRAF teams launched operation to shift people from low lying areas to safer places.
In Kandhamal, Baliguda was the worst affected. As per reports, a temporary culvert at Bataguda on NH-59 was washed away leading to disruption in communication between Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada. Schools were closed in Bargarh, Nuapada and Kalahandi too.
In Boudh, flood threat loomed large in Kantamal block following two days of rainfall. Several villages of the region were marooned after water level swelled in Tel and Khadang River. Communication was also disrupted between Kantamal-Manmunda and Kantamal-Baliguda areas.
Due to heavy flow of water on railway tracks, Sambalpur-Rayagada Express at Barapali, Ajmer-Puri Express at Loisinga and Ispat Express at Dunguripalli were halted. Train services will resume as soon as water level recedes, infomed ECoR officials.
