Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam, and Meghalaya, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in these states due to two low-pressure systems.
As per the IMD report, two low-pressure areas have formed, one over the west in southern Gujarat and its surrounding areas, and the other over the east in the Gangetic West Bengal region adjacent to southwestern Bangladesh. These systems are causing scattered rainfall in various parts of the region.
Also, the southwest monsoon has advanced across the entire region, bringing widespread rainfall. Due to the impact of these low-pressure systems, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over the next three days.
Meanwhile, IMD scientist Umasankar Dash took to tweeter to inform that a red alert has been issued for very heavy rainfall (more than 20 cm) at one or two places in West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, and Meghalaya due to active low-pressure areas in the western and eastern parts of the region.
