Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds over several districts of Odisha in the coming days.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, an upper air cyclonic circulation currently lies over south Odisha and its surrounding areas, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. This system is expected to bring significant rainfall and stormy weather to the region.
A yellow alert warning heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for districts including Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi. Similar conditions are forecast for Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore on July 22.
For July 23, warnings remain for heavy rain and thunderstorms over Koraput and Malkangiri, along with thunderstorm activity in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nuapada, and Nabarangpur.
An orange warning has been issued for Cuttack and Nayagarh, signaling heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong winds. Other districts including Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Khurda, and Boudh are under a yellow alert through July 27.
Fishermen along the coasts of Odisha, West Bengal, and Bangladesh have been advised by the IMD not to venture into northern and adjoining offshore areas during July 24 and 25 due to rough sea conditions.
