Bhubaneswar: Incessant rains over the last five days has affected normal life in Malkangiri and disrupted communication. The most affected has been Motu block where backwater from Chinagodavari river has created a flood-like situation.
Motu Tahasildar Durgaprasad Dora said that water level in local rivers and water bodies is on a rise due to continuous rainfall. The situation is grim at the spot where Sileru and Saberi rivers meet and join Chinagodavari river.
The backwater is flooding the roads and has affected communication. Around 50 vehicles are stranded in Motu as traffic on Guntur and Hyderabad routes are stranded, said Dora.
“In case the water rises above the bridges, we have planned alternate routes to divert the vehicles. Besides, the administration is on toes with adequate food stock and evacuation plans in place in case of any eventuality,” Dora added.
