Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal around July 24, according to the prediction of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per the prediction by IMD, under the influence of the fresh low-pressure area, several Odisha districts are likely to experience significant rainfall.
The formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is anticipated due to the development of an upper air cyclonic circulation. This circulation will enhance moisture inflow into the region, leading to increased cloud formation and precipitation. As a result, the weather conditions in the surrounding areas are expected to become more unstable, potentially bringing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
The weather system is expected to bring significant rainfall to Odisha, starting from July 23, with the heaviest rainfall predicted on July 24 and 25.
Districts expected to receive heavy rainfall are Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Boudh, Malkangiri, Phulbani (Kandhamal district).
The low-pressure system is currently situated over north Madhya Pradesh, with the monsoon trough extending up to the north Bay of Bengal. This trough is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall to various parts of Odisha on July 19 and July 20.
