Bhubaneswar: The well-marked low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal moved slowly west-northwestwards and concentrated into a depression, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As of 0530 hrs IST on July 25, 2025, the depression lay centred over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of coastal West Bengal and Bangladesh and was located about 130 km south of Mongla (Bangladesh), 150 km east-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal), and 170 km southeast of Kolkata (West Bengal).
Going by IMD prediction, this system is expected to move west-northwestwards and cross the West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts during the forenoon of July 25, 2025. Thereafter, it is likely to continue moving west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha and Jharkhand during the subsequent 24 hours, bringing heavy rainfall to these regions.
