Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha today under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. The cyclonic circulation is likely to result in the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal on Tuesday and further intensify rainfall activity across Odisha from July 18.
The low-pressure area is very likely to trigger heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Sonepur, Deogarh, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi and Bargarh on July 17.
Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur in most places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Bargarh, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri and at many places over the remaining districts of Odisha today, the weather office predicted in its weather bulletin today.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a yellow in 11 districts in the north, interior and southern regions of the state.
According to the MeT office, the deficit rainfall in the state could be adjusted by 5% after heavy rainfall occurred in the state on Saturday and the 28% deficit in rainfall will come down to 23%.
