Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, has issued a fresh weather warning for Odisha as a low-pressure system over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh continues to influence the state’s weather. The system, accompanied by a cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, is expected to move west-northwestwards across east Madhya Pradesh in the next 24 hours.

The monsoon trough currently runs from Jaisalmer to the northwest Bay of Bengal, passing through the low-pressure area, while an additional trough extends from the northeast Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal across central India, contributing to widespread rainfall activity.

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon remained active over Odisha in the past 24 hours, triggering heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts.

Forecast and Warnings:

Day 1 (till Sept 5, 8:30 am): Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely across most districts. A Yellow Warning has been issued for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore. Similar thunderstorm warnings apply to Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

Day 2 (Sept 5–6): Widespread rainfall expected; Yellow Warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in north and coastal districts, including Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, and Khurda.

Day 3 (Sept 6–7): Rain likely at a few places; thunderstorm warnings continue for coastal and northern Odisha districts.

Days 4–5 (Sept 7–9): Light to moderate rainfall in north Odisha and isolated areas in the south; Yellow Warning for thunderstorms in select districts.

Days 6–7 (Sept 9–11): Light to moderate rainfall at a few places with no significant warnings.

The IMD has urged citizens to stay updated on weather conditions through alerts on its social media handles and apps.
