Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several districts of Odisha until July 5.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, a low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to move west-northwestwards, affecting northern Odisha in the next two days.
On July 1, an Orange warning is in place for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Koraput districts. Yellow warnings are issued for Rayagada, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Deogarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Ganjam.
For July 2, Orange warnings continue for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur, with Yellow alerts for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bargarh, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Dhenkanal.
Similar warnings extend from July 3 to July 5 for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Bargarh.
The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha’s coast from June 30 to July 2, 2025, due to the hazardous weather conditions.
Residents are urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
