Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha for the next two days. It issued an alert for extremely heavy rainfall in six districts Balasore, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Boudh on Wednesday.
In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for eight districts. The Relief Commission has directed the District Magistrates to be on high alert.
According to the weather office, several districts of the state are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall in the next two days. In the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall is likely in north Odisha and other districts.
While fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, schools have been closed in several areas of the state in view of the heavy rainfall.
A special bulletin issued by the IMD today morning said the deep depression over coastal Bangladesh and the neighbourhood moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 31 kmph during the past 6 hours and lay centerd at 0530 hours IST of August 2 over the Gangetic West Bengal near latitude 23.1°N and longitude 87.2°E, close to Bankura (West Bengal), about 130 km west-northwest of Kolkata (West Bengal) and 190 km east-southeast of Ranchi.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and weaken gradually into a depression during the next 12 hours and into a well-marked low-pressure area during the subsequent 24 hours.

Red Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) is likely to occur at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls (>20cm) over the districts of Balasore, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Boudh.
Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur in a few places along with thunder and lightning over the districts of Jajpur, Bhadrak, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Sundargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Khurdha, Puri, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal.
