Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has predicted heavy rains in several districts of Odisha on Wednesday and Thursday under the influence of a fresh low-pressure area over east central-north Bay of Bengal. An orange alert for heavy rain has been issued for four districts, which a yellow warning has been issued for 16 districts in the state.
Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 29 to 31. These places are likely to receive 70 mm to 200 mm of rainfall. A yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued in seven districts including some areas in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam.
Currently, a low-pressure area prevails over north-west Jharkhand. It will gradually move west-north-west resulting in increased rainfall in the state.
Another low pressure will form over east-central Bay of Bengal in Kalipa which will have maximum effect over south Odisha.
