Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warnings for several districts in Odisha, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning till August 26.
Going by IMD’s prediction for August 23, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) and thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. IMD has issued an orange warning to these districts.
Also, IMD issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall to Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jajpur, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.
As per IMD’s prediction for August 24, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) and thunderstorms with lightning very is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. Besides, the weather office has predicted heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorms with lightning very likely at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.
For August 25, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) and thunderstorms with lightning have been predicted at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Angul and Dhenkanal. These districts have been issued orange warnings.
“Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nabarangapur, Koraput, Kalahandi and Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Deogarh”, read the IMD forecast for August 25.
For August 26, IMD issued an orange warning to the districts of Sambalpur, Angul, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur and Boudh for heavy to very heavy rainfall. That apart, the regional weather office has predicted heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorm with lightning very likely at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Nuapada, Deogarh and Dhenkanal.
Residents in these districts have been advised to be prepared for heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, which could lead to flash flooding, disruption of power supply, and uprooting of trees.
