This was revealed by Commerce and Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera here today.
“Shall we want that the pillion rider of a two-wheeler or the occupants in a car die in the event of a mishap? So if your answer is in the negative, pillion riders ought to wear helmets and passengers ought to wear seat belts,” said Behera talking to media persons here today.
Behera who has recently returned after attending a meeting of Transport Ministers called by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, said “The provision is already there in the Act. It will be enforced strictly after the relaxation period allowed by the government ends.”
