Bhubaneswar: Amid the identity goof-up at Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital here, another injured person who was undergoing treatment in the name of Jyoti Ranjan and later identified himself as Dilip Samantray, died during treatment late Friday night.
Hospital authorities have confirmed the death of the injured person.
The man who died last night identified himself as Dilip. But he was undergoing treatment in a critical condition in the name of Jyoti Ranjan Mallik.
He was out of the ICU on Friday and claimed himself as Dilip. The family members of Jyoti broke down after the man whom they thought to be their Jyoti, claimed that he is Dilip.
Similarly, another man who died last week in the identity of Dilip was not real Dilip. His family members also performed last rites after receiving the body from police in the name of Dilip. The devastating development in the incident was Dilip’s wife committed suicide out of grief a day after the death of the man whom she thought to be her husband.
On Friday, Jyoti Ranjan’s family members and relatives created a ruckus in the hospital premises demanding their son Jyoti, either dead or alive.
Hospital authorities washed their hands of the identification process. CEO Smita Padhi clarified that the persons who were injured in the incident were not the hospital staff. They were outsourced by a third party agency. As per the identification of the outsourcing party, the hospital started treatment.
Notably, four persons including Dilip, Jyoti and two others suffered critical burn injuries following an explosion of AC compressor during repair last week. All the technicians were engaged in the repair work by a third party vendor.
