Bhubaneswar: The DNA report of the third person who died during treatment at Hi-tech hospital has cleared the air on the identity of the dead person. The report, which police received today, confirmed that the third person was Dilip Samantray.

The DNA test was necessitated following confusion in the identity of Dilip and another person named Jyoti Ranjan, who died during treatment in an identity mix- up.

The body will now be handed over to the family of Dilip, said Additional DCP Prakash Pal who is heading the probe team.

Meanwhile, the family members of Dilip who staged a dharna at Mancheswar police station, withdrew from the stir after police received their complaint and registered a case.

Both Dilip, Jyoti Ranjan and two others were engaged in the repair of AC machines at the hospital. All the mechanics sustained critical burn injuries after AC compressor suddenly went off.

As the faces of Dilip and Jyoti were disfigured in the blast, confusion arouse regarding their identity. The hospital, however, started treatment as per the identification of the third party agency which engaged the mechanics.

One of the mechanics who was undergoing treatment in the name of Dilip Samantray died last week. One day after, his grief-stricken wife died by suicide. Four days after, another man who was thought to be Jyoti came out of the ICU and identified himself as Dilip. In the next day, he also succumbed to burns during treatment.

Jyoti’s family created ruckus demanding their son in the hospital and staged agitation.

A team of police headed by ADCP Prakash Pal started investigation and conducted the DNA test of the third man.
