High Court Imposes Ban On Use Of Laser Lights In Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court has imposed a strict ban on the use of laser lights in Cuttack, along with regulations on excessive lighting and sound systems, to address public safety, noise pollution, and health concerns.

In a significant directive, the court has prohibited the use of laser lights across the city. This measure comes amid ongoing concerns over potential health hazards from laser beams, disruptions during festivals, and general public nuisance.

Additionally, the court has restricted night-time procession after 10 PM, limiting decorative or excessive lighting in public and private spaces during late hours to reduce pollution, energy waste, and disturbances to residents.

The use of DJs with excessive lighting (and often high-decibel sound) has also been regulated, particularly in contexts like public events, marriage processions, and celebrations.

The bench has directed the Commissionerate Police (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate) to implement and enforce these restrictions effectively.

These orders appear to build on earlier court interventions related to festival celebrations (such as Durga Puja and Dussehra), where similar curbs on laser lights, DJs, firecrackers, and tall illuminated structures were imposed for safety and to prevent accidents or communal issues.
