Bhubaneswar: The state government has constituted a high-level committee to resolve the long-standing Mahanadi water dispute with Chhattisgarh.

The committee, formed on the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, will be chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

The committee comprises seven members, including Ministers Suresh Pujari, Prithiviraj Harichandan, Sampad Chandra Swain, government chief whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan, MLAs Niranjan Pujari, Jayanarayan Mishra, and Sofia Firdous.

It is pertinent to mention that the Mahanadi water dispute has been a contentious issue between Odisha and Chhattisgarh, with several rounds of talks held between the two states. The National Green Tribunal has also taken up the matter, and both states have been asked to resolve the issue amicably.
