Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance has unearthed Rs 1.36 crore in cash during raids on premises of Rural Works Department’s Superintendent Engineer Ashis Kumar Das. The raids continued for four days at different locations in Malkangiri and Cuttack, the Vigilance said.
“On Monday, searches were carried out in Das’ apartment at Shantivan at Belgachia in Trisulia, Cuttack. During the search Rs 1.15 crore in cash, 632 grams of gold ornaments, including gold biscuits and coins were recovered,” a Vigilance official said.
With the total recovery of Rs 1,36,75,000, this happens to be the highest amount of cash recovered in the history of Odisha Vigilance. Besides, 1.2 kg gold has also been recovered, the official added. “While further investigation is on, verification of other bank accounts and two lockers is underway.”
So far, 12 bank accounts in the name of family members, relatives, and associates were detected. The total deposits in these accounts were Rs 2.25 crore. Total deposits in bank accounts, fixed deposits, savings, and insurance policies have been estimated at Rs 4 crore, the Vigilance stated.
