Sambalpur: The Hirakud dam authorities on Thursday opened eight more sluice gates of the reservoir in view of the rising water level after incessant rains in the upper catchment area of Mahanadi.
Earlier, the dam authorities had opened two sluice gates.
Currently, the dam is releasing excess water from the reservoir through 10 gates (Left 6 and Right 4).
According to the information, eight gates were opened on Thursday morning.
The water level of the reservoir stood at 628.71 cubic feet on Thursday against its water-holding capacity of 630 cubic feet. The reservoir has been receiving 1,42,072 cusecs water from the upper catchment area, authorities said.
