Hirakud Dam Opens 6 More Sluice Gates, No Flood Threat In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Six more sluice gates of Hiradkud dam has been opened in view of the increasing water flow into Hirakud dam following incessant rainfall in the upper catchment areas.

Dhiren Kumar Samal, Engineer-in-Chief of Water Resources Department, informed that at present, the water level of Hirakud stands at 628.3 ft against its storage capacity of 630 ft.

With the opening of six more gates, the water at the reservoir is being discharged through 12 gates. More gates will be opened based on the situation. The average inflow of water was 2,98,000 cusecs and the average outflow was 1,26,000 cusecs at 9 AM today.

Samal assured that the situation is not alarming and it will not create any flood situation in Odisha. He further informed that the water level at many rivers is receding or is steady.
