Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud Dam, Asia’s longest earthen dam, has reopened to tourists after a 24-day restriction was lifted today.
According to reports, the restriction was imposed on May 9 due to heightened security concerns amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan.
The Sambalpur district administration, in coordination with security agencies, has put in place a high-level security protocol to ensure the safety of visitors. Tourists can now visit all areas of the Hirakud Dam premises, except for restricted zones.
The district administration had assured that the restriction was a precautionary measure taken in the interest of public safety, and there was no cause for panic. With the lifting of the ban, visitors can once again explore the dam.
It is pertinent to mention that security personnel at the dam site have been equipped with modern arms, including Light Machine Guns (LMGs), and advanced surveillance equipment to bolster vigilance and to ensure the safety of visitors.
