Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities opened two more sluice gates to release the excess flood water on Saturday. Currently, the excess water is being discharged through 24 gates.
As many as 16 gates were opened on the left side while water is being released through eight gates on the right side, dam authorities informed.
Incessant rain in the upstream of Mahanadi forced the dam authorities to open more gates as the water level continued to rise.
