Bhubaneswar: As the hockey fever seems to have spread its tentacles across the State, the Odisha Assembly is also gripped in its sportive fever following which the MLAs demanded adjournment of the House to be a part and parcel World Hockey League’s inaugural ceremony.

Odisha MLAs are all set to have a day-out for the spectacular opening ceremony of the Hockey World Final League 2017 at the Kaling Stadium.

“It is a matter of pride for Odisha. So I had requested the Speaker to adjourn the Assembly for this event. I am elated that star players from Sundergarh have made it to the Indian team. I wish all the best to Team India for the tournament,” said Talsara MLA Prafulla Majhi.

With the best eight teams of the world clashing for the title, the fans are eagerly waiting for the tournament to start as the 18-member hockey team of India includes three players from the State, Birendra Lakra, Amit Rohidas and Dipsan Tirkey

“Odisha is the cradle of hockey and it is a pride for us to host this mega event. The three Odia players in the Indian team will definitely make us proud and we wish that Team India emerges out as champions,” according to Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debasis Samantray.

Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium is all set for the prestigious tournament. The Indian side will be meeting defending champions Australia in their first game on the opening day itself.

“Our best wishes for the India Team in general and the three Odia players in particular. It will be a treat to watch them play,” said Tangi-Salepur MLA Prakash Behera.

Bhubaneswar is hosting a global hockey tournament for the second time after Men’s Champions Trophy 2014 where India finished fourth.
