Hockey World Cup 2018: FIH Satisfied With Odisha’s Timely Preparations

**Bhubaneswar:** With less than six months to go for the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 here in the capital city, its venue Kalinga Stadium is all set to welcome the grand sporting event as it is scheduled to be held from 28th November to 16th December.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) delegation visited the Kalinga Stadium to inspect the venue ahead of the gala event. The inspecting team included Hockey India CEO Elena Norman, FIH Event Director Gabrielle Van Zwieten, Hockey India Joint Director B N Bhushan and other coordinating members of Hockey India.

They had a meeting with OSG at the Kalinga Stadium Conference hall along with the 5th executive committee meeting.

Hockey India CEO Elena Norman said, “Everything is on track, we are really excited to launch the grand venue. Everything looks quite impressive.”

FIH Events Director Gabrielle Van Zwieten was also satisfied with the preparation and said, “In comparison to my last visit, everything looks different and huge, we are really excited. The communication facility and accommodation is on point ”

Later in the day, the delegation met Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi who assured that major works are slated to be completed by September end. “The Works Department, IDCO and Civic authorites have been givern deadlines in this regard and we are optimistic about a successful tournament,” Padhi said.

The Odisha Government and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have given a facelift to the host city and several measures are being taken to improve the infrastructure, transportation and ambience for the biggest competition. BMC is making sure that fans from across the world can enjoy the world-class hospitality that Odisha has to offer.

After the successful organisation of the Hockey World League (HWL) Final in 2017, the city will be hosting the prestigious World Cup 2018.

Notably, top 16 Hockey Nations of the world will participate in this highest ranking Hockey extravaganza, organized once every four years.
