Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government allowed home delivery of alcohol in the state from Sunday, i.e. May 24 and Cuttack, Khurda and Sundergarh are the top three districts in terms of the number of orders delivered.
Reports from the Excise Department indicate that 672 ON/OFF shop licensees across 29 excise districts have started participating in the home delivery throughout the State.
They delivered 8420 orders during the day. A total of 9440 bulk litre of foreign liquor and 10689 bulk litres of beer were sold through home delivery today, informed Odisha Excise Commissioner.
Swiggy and Zomato who were given NOC to operate in Odisha are in the process of tying up with the retailers and are expected to start their operations from tomorrow.
Notably, the home delivery provision comes with a much higher price on alcohol due to a 50 per cent Special COVID Fee, fixed timing and a wait time of 6 hours. Retailers have been asked to ensure there is no crowding outside their homes.
