Bhubaneswar: Suresh Kumar Rout, a home guard working at Ghashipura police station in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, died after being run over by an unidentified vehicle on Wednesday night.
According to sources, the accident occurred when Suresh, who hails from Trimul village in the district, along with a colleague was taking a walk near Deogaon Bridge last night. Suddenly, a speeding car hit Suresh and he died on the spot. However, his colleague escaped unscathed.
On being informed, a team from Ghashipura police station arrived at the spot and recovered Suresh’s mutilated body and sent it for post-mortem at Anandapur sub-divisional hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and a search for the killer vehicle and its driver.
Suresh and another home guard were deployed at an ATM counter in Deogaon market on Wednesday night. It is yet to be ascertained exactly when the mishap occurred, why he came to the bridge and what circumstances led to him coming under the wheels of a vehicle.
