Bhubaneswar: Chaos broke out at a private engineering college hostel when students reported to have found a dead lizard and scorpion in their dinner, sparking a protest on Friday night.

As per reports, the incident occurred at a private engineering hostel in the state capital, where students were served potato curry with rice for dinner. As they started eating, they found a dead lizard in the curry and a scorpion in the rice.

The students stopped eating and staged a protest, seeking improved food quality and hygiene.

Despite repeated protests, the hostel authorities are not concerned about hygiene, alleged students.

On a tip-off,  Chandrasekharpur police arrived promptly to address their concerns and restore calm.

“We found a lizard in the potato curry which was served to us. This is not the first time we’ve faced such issues. Earlier, we found worms in the soybean curry,” said an engineering student.

The hostel superintendent admitted to the incident and said, “We apologize for the mistake. The food was replaced, and fresh food was again prepared for the students.”

Chandrasekharpur police officer Prakash Chandra Majhi said, “We are investigating the matter and have advised the hostel authorities to ensure better food quality and hygiene.”

The protest was called off after the authorities assured the students of improved food quality and hygiene.
