Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a tribal woman has allegedly sold her newborn baby boy to a Telugu individual for a sum of Rs 1 lakh. This incident surfaced in Jagatsinghpur district.
As per reports, Mamina Sarda, a slum-dweller, had given birth to a baby boy at Atharabanki government hospital on Sunday. She is reported to have sold her one-day-old boy to a Telugu-speaking man on the very next day of her delivery.
The incident came to light when another woman named Manga levelled allegations against Mamina that the latter had first agreed to sell the baby to her but did not keep her promise. Instead of selling the baby to her, Mamina alleged to have sold her baby boy to a Telugu-speaking man who hails from Vizag.
Mamina, a resident of Sankhud slum, wanted to abort her baby after she came to know about her pregnancy. However, Manga, a Telugu-speaking woman, advised her not to abort the baby and give the baby to her after delivery. She even assured Mamina that she would provide financial support for her elder daughter’s future. Mamina had reportedly agreed to it. Manga used to look after Mamina during her pregnancy.
Instead of keeping her word, Mamina reportedly sold her baby boy to another person in the absence of Manga.
Manga got into a heated argument with Mamina after she learnt that the latter had sold her baby boy to another person. Mamina is absconding after the matter came to the fore, revealed sources.
On the other hand, it is learnt that police formed a special team to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, the Child Welfare Committee has decided to take stern action after an investigation.
