Baripada: In a horrifying incident, an elderly woman was gang-raped by two youths near Sukruli under Raruan police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
The perpetrators of the crime allegedly hit her on the head and drove a stick into her private parts after taking turns to rape her.
The 55-year-old survivor, who is critically injured, has been admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Sukruli.
According to reports, the 55-year-old woman was returning home from the weekly bazaar at Sukruli on Friday.
While she was walking home, she was accosted by two youths who offered her a lift to drop her at home.
Instead of dropping her off at her home, the two youths took her to the banks of river Bhandan on the Sukruli Raruan road. They attempted to rape her.
As she resisted them, they beat her up. Later they raped her taking turns. Other 3-4 youths who were there at the spot also raped the elderly woman.
After raping her, the youths hit her on the head and inserted a stick into her private parts causing profuse bleeding.
Passersby saw her crying without clothes on the Sukruli-Raruan road. They informed at the Fire Station at Sukruli.
Fire Service personnel rescued her in a critical condition and admitted her to the CHC at Sukruli.
Sources in the CHC have said that the survivor has deep wounds on her head and private parts.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Scientific team and dog squad have been pressed into service.
Additional SP Rairangpur, SDPO Karanjia, police teams of Jashipur, Raruan and Badampahar are jointly investigating the matter.
Police are examining CCTV footage of areas near the spot of the incident to get clues about the perpetrators of the crime.
IG Himanshu Lal has also reached the Raruan police station to oversee the investigation.
However, no arrests have been made so far.
