Bhubaneswar: The hospitalisation rate and oxygenation are low during the current surge in COVID-19 cases, said Odisha Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra on Tuesday.
He informed that the occupancy rate is 9% in general beds, 15% in ICU, 5 to 6% in Ventilator, while the admission of paediatric cases is very low.
On being asked about the increase in the number of cases, Mohapatra said that the daily cases in Odisha are staying between 10,000 to 11,000 for the last three to four days. The trend can be detected only after 10 to 15 days. One cannot predict the rise or fall in cases until the trend is detected.
Answering queries on home isolation, he said that though the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stated that one can stay in home isolation for 5 days, it has not been adopted by all countries.
The home isolation as set by India’s Covid-19 task force is seven days.
Mohapatra also advised people not to use antibiotics and other drugs unless advised by the doctor. He further informed that presently there is a sufficient amount of oxygen and drugs available with the State Government.
