Bhubaneswar: Hostel warden Biswaranjan Rana was arrested on Tuesday after he was caught on camera brutally thrashing students for scoring poor marks. He was held by Khandagiri police.
In a video shared by one Sanghamitra Bhujabal, Rana was seen thrashing students for scoring less marks. He was heard asking the students “How much have you scored” while cracking the whip on them. Several people had commented on the post demanding action against the warden. The comments address the video as ‘inhuman’ and ‘prison-like’.
Soon after the videos went viral, Principal of the Institute Sudhansu Moharana on Monday terminated Rana’s services and filed an FIR against him at Khandagiri police station for giving physical punishment to students. “Such a behavior is against the law and we condemn this,” he said.
