Bhubaneswar: Severe hot and humid conditions prevailed in the State today with nine towns registering above 40 degrees C temperature.
People in half of Odisha were grappled with intense heat wave and high humidity even as sudden thunderstorms in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur and some other places brought a brief respite from the gruelling g heat.
Nuapada today emerged as the hottest place with 43 degrees C temperature while Bolangir and Boudh remain in the second and third spot with 41.5 degrees C and 41.2 degrees C respectively.
Bhawanipatna and Titilagarh recorded 41 degrees C each while Paralakhemundi and Sonepur witnessed 40.7 degrees C each.
Other places recording above 40 degrees C are Jhsruguda (40.4) and Dhenkanal (40.4).
The mercury level touched 39.8 Degrees C and 38.4 Degrees C in Twin city Bhubaneswar and Cuttack respectively.
The heat-wave condition persisted in Odisha even as the south-west monsoon has already set in. Its progress has been slow. The delay in the advancement of monsoon caused heat wave conditions in the interior districts and sultry weather in the coastal belt.
The humid condition is likely to further wane form June 20, weather officials said.
