Berhampur: The Human Rights Protection Cell is investigating into the death of IIC Dev Kumar Gamang who died under mysterious circumstances of a bullet injury on Friday.
SP Brijesh Rai said that post mortem report in this case is awaited while it has been confirmed that Gamang died of the injuries inflicted by the bullet. However, the police remains tight-lipped about the circumstances which led to the fatal incident.
Speaking to mediapersons on Sunday, Gamang’s wife Kiran Mohanty said that there was no domestic dispute as such and they were a happy family.
“My mother-in-law stayed with him and I work at a different location. Few days back I had come and we stayed happily together for 10 days, and then I left for my work place. Work pressure might have been a reason for this incident,” said Mohanty.
Gamanga joined Gangapur police station as IIC four months back, and his colleagues said that he was an efficient officer.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, the deceased police officer’s mother said that two Inspector-ranked police personnel were present with her son at the time of the incident.
“He had taken his food as usual. Two ‘3-star’ police personnel were present. They asked me to go to the bathroom, which I did. Moments later I heard the sound of a gunshot and came out of the bathroom. I saw my son lying in a pool of blood,” said deceased Gamanga’s mother.
On Friday, Gamanga had sustained two gunshots on his body below the waist under mysterious circumstances inside the campus of his police station. He was rushed to Aska Sub Division Hospital where he was declared dead.
