Bhubaneswar: In a major push toward making the city cleaner, greener, and more livable, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday rolled out six new mechanized sweeping vehicles.

Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra inaugurated the fleet, marking a significant expansion of the city’s mechanized road-cleaning operations.

With the fresh deployment, mechanical sweeping will now cover 166 km — equivalent to 715 lane-kilometres — of major roads across the capital city. This is a substantial rise from the earlier coverage of just 80 km. The service will also be extended to areas surrounding BMC limits and neighbouring panchayat regions.

Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das, the BMC Commissioner, Standing Committee Chairperson, and several other dignitaries attended the inauguration.

Officials said the enhanced mechanized cleaning will strengthen urban sanitation and contribute to Bhubaneswar’s vision of becoming a cleaner and more environmentally friendly city.
