Nayagarh: Police seized huge amounts of tobacco products, razor blades, and cash during a series of raids at several jails in Nayagarh and Bolangir districts on Sunday night. Apart from guthka and khaini, the police recovered cash worth over Rs 13,000 during the raids.
The raids were conducted at Nayagarh Circle jail and three other sub-jails in Nayagarh and Bolangirs. According to reports, police conducted the raids after receiving complaints of illegal narcotics use and trade of tobacco products and narcotics in these jails.
The seizure of huge quantities of narcotics and tobacco products from the jails has raised suspicion about the security measures in the state prisons and the role of prison authorities.
During a raid at Bolangir jail on August 23, several contraband items were seized, which are restricted as per the jail manual.
