Cuttack: Jagatpur police seized a huge quantity of fake tyres and tubes during a raid at a godown of ‘Utkal Distributor’ near Khaira Pol in Odisha’s Cuttack district. The godown was sealed and the owner Pradeep Kumar Chamoli (60) of Haripur Road area under Purighat police limits was arrested.

According to the police, the Cuttack regional office of Hindustan Tyres and Cycles had come to know about the duplication of its products in Cuttack. The company found that their products from Nadia in West Bengal were copied and brought to the Utkal Distributor’s warehouse in Jagatpur for sale. Aditya Kumar Das, chief manager of the company’s Cuttack regional office, had lodged a complaint with the Cuttack DCP that the tyres and tubes were being sent from this warehouse to villages in various districts. On the instructions of DCP Jagmohan Meena, Jagatpur police station officer Anirudh Nayak and his team raided the warehouse and seized the fake tyres and tubes on Thursday.

During the inspection, it was found that this warehouse had been running in Jagatpur area for six months and was selling these fake tyres and tubes at a lower price than the original. The police have seized all the goods in the warehouse and are conducting further searches.

The police have informed that the market value of the seized tires and tubes is about Rs 3 lakh. In the recent days, raids have been conducted on factories producing fake sauce, spices, ghee, soybean, cement, pan masala, pipes, mobiles, tea leaves, milk etc in the Jagatpur police station area. The factories have been sealed and the owners concerned have been arrested.
