Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Barsha Singh Bariah has won the Padampur bye-election with a huge margin of more than 42,500 votes.
Barsha, the daughter of deceased tribal leader of the region and former BJD MLA Bijay Singh Bariha, got 1,20,807 votes thereby defeating the BJP candidate Pradip Purohit who bagged 78,128 votes.
Indian National Congress candidate Satya Bhusan Sahu got 3,594 votes in this crucial bye-election in Bargarh district.
The results brought cheer in BJD camp with leaders and workers accrediting the victory to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s development agenda and popularity of Bijay Singh Bariha whose untimely demise necessitate the poll.
