Nayagarh: In yet another alleged dowry death, a woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband and mother-in-law in Champtipur village under Itamati police limits in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Padmini Pradhan, a teacher at the Odgaon Model School in the district.
According to reports, Tapan Swayaku and Padmini Pradhan were married some time ago but their relationship was far from amiable. They used to quarrel often over money matters. Padmini’s family members alleged that she was maltreated by her husband and in-laws who pressurised her for money.
On Thursday night, the couple engaged in a fierce argument over money matters. The feud took an ugly turn when Tapan started beating Padmini and even her mother-in-law joined him. Padmini reportedly succumbed to the severe beating.
On being informed by villagers, police arrived at the spot, recovered Padmini’s body, and sent it for post-mortem. The police have also detained Tapan for interrogation and, along with a scientific team, launched a probe into the circumstances that led to Padmini’s death.
