Bhubaneswar: In power or out of it, senior leader and Paradip MLA Damodar Rout hogged the headlines time and again. More often for the wrong reasons though.

After being ousted from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Rout has kept his political options open. However, with the elections approaching, it is believed that Rout might join either of the national parties - Congress or the BJP very soon.

His son, Sambit Rout treads a different course. Sambit has never allowed his father's line of action impact his political prospects with the BJD.

"No doubt he is a potential factor. But I have nothing to do with what decision my father takes. He is solely responsible and answerable for his actions," Sambit said.

Speaking about striking a compromise between BJD leadership and his father, Sambit said that he was never asked to do so.

“He is one of the senior most leaders of the state and am a twig before him. I cannot imagine advising him of politics. He will take his own decisions,” he added.
