Bhubaneswar: Simultaneous Income Tax (I-T) raids continued for the second day on Thursday at various premises linked to Boudh Distilleries Private Limited, a liquor-brewing company based in Odisha.
According to sources, the I-T personnel unearthed and seized cash to the tune of Rs 150 crore during the raid at the offices of Baldeo Sahu & Group of Companies in Odisha’s Bolangir district.
The Income Tax Department conducted raids at Boudh Distilleries Private Limited in Odisha and Jharkhand and recovered a huge cache of currency notes from the premises linked to the company on Wednesday. According to officials, searches are underway at Bolangir and Sambalpur in Odisha and Ranchi, Lohardaga in Jharkhand.
Counting of notes up to an amount of Rs 50 crore was completed by Wednesday but the machines stopped working since the number of notes is very high, Income Tax sources said.
It is worth mentioning here that Baldeo Sahu & Group of Companies is in partnership with Boudh Distilleries Private Limited. The former has other businesses, including Baldeo Sahu Infra Private Limited (which makes fly ash bricks) Kwality Bottlers Private Limited (an IMFL bottling unit), and Kishore Prasad Bijay Prasad Beverages Private Limited engaged in the sale and marketing of different IMFL brands.
I-T officials also undertook simultaneous raids at the residences of two other liquor traders at Sudapada in Bolangir town and Titilagarh town. An undisclosed amount of cash was seized from both these locations, sources said.
According to reports, I-T searches were also conducted at the residences of two liquor traders Deepak Sahu and Sanjay Sahu in Titilagarh. The Income Tax team also raided the house, office, and country liquor distillery at Sargipali in Sundargarh on Wednesday. Searches were also conducted at the corporate office of Boudh Distillery Pvt Ltd at Palasapalli in Bhubaneswar.
