**Malkangiri:** In a spine-chilling incident of the Chitrakonda outlying tract of Malkangiri, five minor girls managed to escape from the clutches from the Naxals, out of which one girl has alleged sexual harassment by the naxals.
Notably, the girls had gone home from their school hostel for Dussehra holidays. The Naxals had kidnapped them and were sexually torturing them.
“We were unable to bear the torture and managed to escape from their clutches during the recent Panasput police encounter. We reached here after much trials and tribulations,” informed one of the girls.
Now, she has submitted an application to continue her studies in the Somnathpur Upper Primary School. But the school authorities are in a fix.
“The girl, a student of Std-VII, had discontinued her studies post Dussehra due to the Maoists menace. Now she has appealed to continue her studies. We can allow the girl to continue in our school only if our higher authorities give a written consent letter and will facilitate her with all the requirements. Only then, I can enroll her,” according to Smt Tukurani Zadar, Headmistress of Somnathpur Upper Primary School.
Presently the girls are in a rehabilitation centre at Kudumulugama village.
In his reactions on such an appalling incident, Mitrabhanu Mohapatra, SP, Malkangiri told media on Wednesday, “A complaint has been received by us that a militia girl of the cut-off area has been meted out mental torture by the Maoists. We’re investigating into it. Police personnel are in touch with her and counselling her. Basing on her statements if any cognisable offence is revealed, case will be registered. It’s hereby realised that the Maoists are gradually losing their ideology. We’ve also felt that their party is being riddled with problems. However, if any concrete evidence is gathered, case will be registered accordingly and probe process will be made.”
