Puri: Police are facing a daunting task to maintain law and order in Puri as several idols have been stolen from three separate temples in a span of one month indicating the involvement of a racket.
In the recent case, five ‘Astadhatu’ idols and ornaments were stolen from the Gopinath Dev temple at Biranarasingh under Chandanpur police limits on Friday night.
Earlier on Tuesday night, Chandanpur Police had busted an idol theft gang with the arrested of a married couple and recovery of 10 stolen ancient idols.
However, on the same night, four ‘Astadhatu’ idols were stolen from the 500-year-old Ishaneswar Temple at Srimukundapur. It is suspected that more persons are involved in the racket.
